Meet Alberto J. Panero, D.O. - The BIOS Orthopedic Institute

Alberto J. Panero, D.O.

Regenerative Orthopedics Specialist & Sports Medicine Specialist located in Sacramento, CA

Alberto J. Panero, D.O. is a board-certified Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physician with subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine and an internationally recognized leader in regenerative orthopedics and interventional sports medicine. He is the founder of The BIOS Orthopedic Institute, a premier practice based in Sacramento, California, focused on advanced orthobiologic treatments and precision, non-surgical musculoskeletal care.

Dr. Panero serves as core faculty for the University of California, Davis PM&R Sports Medicine Fellowship, where he is actively involved in training the next generation of physicians in interventional orthopedics, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and regenerative medicine. He is widely regarded for his expertise in orthobiologics, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and advanced tissue-based therapies, stem cells, as well as high-level image-guided procedures.

He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and has delivered over 100 national and international presentations on orthobiologics, ultrasound-guided procedures, and sports medicine at leading conferences, including AAOS, AMSSM, AOSSM, TOBI, and the Biologic Association. His work focuses on bridging innovation, clinical outcomes, and real-world application in regenerative medicine.

Dr. Panero currently serves as a team physician for Team Alpha Male and works closely with professional mixed martial artists, including UFC fighters, specializing in high-performance, non-surgical recovery strategies for combat athletes. He has previously served as team physician for the Sacramento River Cats (Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants) and Sacramento Republic FC, as well as Co-Head Team Physician for Sacramento State University. His clinical practice spans from elite and professional athletes to active individuals seeking advanced, non-surgical solutions to optimize recovery and performance.

A former elite athlete, Dr. Panero competed in track and field, baseball, and soccer, and was part of the United States Olympic Development Program in soccer, competing internationally in the United States, France, and Argentina. His own experience with recurrent injuries ultimately led him to pursue a career in sports medicine, where he now applies that same competitive mindset and personal insight to patient care.

Dr. Panero takes a comprehensive, physiatric approach to care—focusing on restoring function, optimizing performance, and addressing the root cause of injury. He is committed to delivering innovative, patient-centered care while advancing the field of regenerative orthopedics through clinical practice, research, and education.

I just had my first visit with Dr. Panero and found him to be knowledgeable and personable. I appreciate the fact that he was straightforward with my options for treatment, which are limited due to the nature of my orthopedic problem. I will continue with his recommended injections.

Karen L.

Dr. Panero is extremely professional and takes the time to explain in detail his diagnosis and opinion. He is also willing to listen to your concerns and needs.(Some orthopedic doctors I’ve meet with have not been as open minded.) I really like his approach to rehab and regeneration. It is refreshing to not have a Dr. want to immediately operate or medicate you. Nice courteous staff, reasonable wait time and the office is very accessible with a parking garage. Parking fee, I paid $1 for 30 mins, cash only.

Ronald Z.

I was very happy with Dr. Panero. He took his time to listen to me and evaluate me. Then he went over all my options and answered all my questions. I am very glad I was referred to him!

David M.

I really appreciate Dr. Panero’s skill and expertise, as well as his focus, deep active listening, and clear communication about next steps. Thank you so much!

Susan C.

Dr Panero is superb. Always and I have unqualified respect and admiration and trust in him. I am fortunate to be a patient and client of his. His staff are excellent and so professional and thoughtful too.
