He is double board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain medicine by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (APBMR).
As Professor, he served as Multidisciplinary Pain Fellowship Director and Musculoskeletal Director at the UC Davis Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. The Pain Program had received national recognition during his tenure.
Dr. De Mesa also served as Chief of Interventional Pain, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Hoag Spine Institute and Director of the Curci Chronic Pain & Neuropathy Program at Hoag’s Pickup Family Neuroscience Institute. He established the foundational elements and catalyzed growth for interventional spine and comprehensive pain care at the highest ranked Health System in Orange County, California.
He specializes in treating acute and chronic spine pain, without using opiates whenever possible as well as musculoskeletal, sports injuries and neuropathic pain conditions.
Dr. De Mesa is a member of the Spinal Intervention Society, North American Spine Society, and has authored numerous journal publications as well as comprehensive and interventional textbooks, such as Primary Care Pain Management and Neuromodulation.
Dr. De Mesa completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency and served as the academic chief resident at Baylor College of Medicine, University of Texas in Houston, Texas. He completed his pain medicine fellowship at the University of California, Davis.
His goals are to listen to patients, provide education and improve their quality of life through compassionate care.
